CRISIS LINE The agency maintains a 24-hour crisis line staffed by trained advocates that provide crisis intervention and referral to local and regional programs.
SHELTER The agency maintains an emergency shelter for victims of domestic violence and sexual assault who are in immediate danger. Clients residing in the shelter may receive all of the services provided by the agency. Individuals residing in the shelter will work toward self-sufficiency away from a violent environment.
COUNSELING The agency provides individual and group counseling for children and adults. Licensed counselors assist clients in exploring and overcoming the effects of domestic violence, sexual assault and other traumatic victimizations. Counselors also conduct support groups in which clients may share their experiences concerning domestic violence and sexual assault. Groups will provide education on understanding the cycle of violence, the abusive personality and the resources available in the community. Curriculum based support groups for children will focus on developing healthy relationships and developing coping skills.
LEGAL ADVOCACY AGENCY staff will assist in preparing a protective order including completing an affidavit and collecting police reports. Staff will also provide accompaniment to law enforcement and criminal justice offices. Assistance in completing and submitting crime victim’s compensation claims is also available.
CASE-MANAGEMENT Each client will receive comprehensive case-management focused on identifying and reaching established goals. Case plans are reviewed regularly to address changing situations. Clients will be referred to other agencies when appropriate.
VICTIMS ADVOCACY The agency maintains 24-hour on call crisis advocates that response to the hospital or other secure location where a victim may require assistance. Advocates provide information/referral about community services as well as accompaniment to medical, law enforcement and criminal justice service providers.
INFORMATION/REFERRAL may be provided through the crisis line or in person by any of the staff or trained volunteers. The agency maintains an updated referral manual that contains service providers from Comal County as well as the surrounding area.
COMMUNITY education and prevention. The agency provides community education presentations to local civic, educational and religious groups concerning domestic violence and sexual assault. The agency also participates in local health and resource fairs. Prevention education is provided in the schools to school age children. This consists of one-time presentations as well as support and educational groups concerning domestic violence, sexual assault, bullying and healthy relationships.
