Privacy

Please read the following information and disclaimer.

Crisis Center of Comal County is dedicated to providing an environment in which survivors of rape and sexual abuse feel safe. The general purpose of the Crisis Center of Comal County web site is to provide information and referrals for our site visitors.

Maintaining your confidentiality and anonymity is very important to us, therefore, we have taken special precautions to protect your identity and confidentiality as you access our online support service. This service does not allow us to initiate direct contact with you, thus maximizing your confidentiality.

Server Records

The web server collects anonymous information about each visitor’s access of the web site. Information such as pages requested, date and times of request, and Internet network addresses are recorded for security and for statistical tracking. These records do not contain email addresses, names, passwords, nor any other personally identifiable information.

Cookies

The Crisis Center of Comal County web site does not make use of “cookies.”

“Cookies” are small files or records that a web server can place on your computer to keep track of information specific to your computer. These records can be records of the last visit to a web site, preferences for that web site, and virtually any other kind of information that the web server already has.

A knowledgeable computer user can access these records on your computer to determine what sites had been visited, which is why we do not implement them.

Cached Pages

Web browsers store copies of recently visited web sites in order to display those pages more quickly on subsequent visits. These copies are stored in what is called a cache. Files in a cache eventually expire or are replaced periodically by the web browser software. As with cookies, a knowledgeable computer user can access the cache to determine what web pages had been visited.

The Crisis Center of Comal County web site has implemented web page programming that virtually eliminates the likelihood that its web pages will be cached on your computer. However, as an added precaution, you are encouraged to clear temporary cache files from your computer. See your web browser software’s documentation or help file for information on how to do this.

E-mail

Although the Crisis Center of Comal County makes every effort to secure any communications that it may receive, the Internet, as a public medium, is open to abuse. Email can be intercepted and tracked.

If you feel it is necessary to protect your e-mail privacy, the Crisis Center of Comal County suggests the following:

Use any of the free, web-based email accounts so that your email communications are not stored on your computer. You can create an account specifically for your private and confidential communications.

Carefully choose a password for your email account and make sure it is something you can remember. Do not write the password down. Do not share it with anyone.

Use internet facilities available at places like public libraries.

Use a pseudonym (a pen name) for your email communications. Do not use your real name.

Disclaimer

Although the Crisis Center of Comal County has made every effort to assure your privacy and confidentiality, it cannot be responsible for electronic communications and the transfer of information on the public Internet. Ultimately, it is your responsibility to be aware of how you use the Internet.

Our Mission is to provide crisis and prevention services to victims of domestic violence and sexual assault. The agency provides a safe environment where an individual can make educated non-biased decisions about their future.
